London (CNN) — A Pakistan Airlines flight due to land in northwestern England’s Manchester Airport was diverted Friday to London’s Stansted airport, and was being escorted by a fighter jet, a representative for the Manchester airport told CNN.
Military aircraft were launched to investigate the incident, the UK Defense Ministry said.
The plane was coming from Lahore, Pakistan, the airport representative said.
Essex Police, which covers the area near Stansted airport, said the plane has now landed.
A representative for Stansted Airport said it was on an isolated stand away from the normal airport and police were handling the situation.
“An incident has occurred on an aircraft,” the police said. “Police and partners are responding. A further update will be released as soon as possible.”
