HATE CRIME VIDEO: “Mailman Threatens & Spits on Muslim Women in New York”

From CBS-2 (New York)

Coley allegedly spit on the woman and made "anti-Muslim comments."

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police on Monday night were investigating an alleged hate crime in Brooklyn that was caught on security video.

As CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported, two Muslim women said a man yelled and spat at them – and the suspect is believed to be a U.S. postal worker.

The incident happened this past Friday evening on busy Nostrand Avenue, near Halsey Street, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. It was captured by surveillance videos at the NBA Deli Grocery.

The two Muslim women, wearing traditional headscarves as one of them pushed a stroller with a baby, were accosted by a man on the sidewalk.

Still sporting his US Postal Service uniform Friday evening, 33-year old Dainton Coley followed two Muslim women in hijabs down the street. Police said the man intentionally bumped into the women — one of whom was pushing a baby stroller — and threatened to burn her “Muslim temple down.”

The mailman continued to follow the women down the block, shouting racial epithets and spitting in one woman’s face multiple times. Attempting to escape the mailman’s harassment, the women entered a nearby deli, where security footage captured Coley continuing to threaten the terrified women.
